'Run These Streets' is the brand-new release from the UK's Hypo and Jamaica's Popcaan, which is what most would consider to be a surprising collaboration. London-based Hypo has been prominent in the 2018 UK scene, laying down multiple tracks on popular channels such as GRM Daily and Noisey. One of his previous collaborations in March, featuring the likes of Young Adz and Yxng Bane, reached over 1.2 million views.

Popcaan is a modern Dancehall heavyweight from Jamaica with a history of unexpected collaborations in his discography, having worked with the likes of Jamie XX, Gorillaz and Drake in recent years. Regardless, the release has still come as a shock to the UK scene as it is seldom that such influential artists of these genres work together.

The beat is driven by soft melodic percussion that would now be considered conventional to both Popcaan's Dancehall and Hypo's scene. Their vocals transition effortlessly from verse to chorus despite the difference in styles, demonstrating perfectly how these two genres can be synchronised.

This track draws similarities and connects what many would consider to be two very different sounds in order to create something fresh with a distinct summer feel to it. The cohesion of these artists could pave a way for what might be an exciting future relationship between the two styles.
